So I figure if I don't write in this diary soon my life will be too overwhelming and I won't start writing in it because of the novel of back story. So here it goes....
So I got into medical school!!!!
YAY! I know before it looked like I was on the waiting list but then I got a call about a week later and ran across town to the phone and to a series of hoorays from my supportive town of Missinipe found out I would soon be Dr. Amanda Morris.
But first I had to become the Morris part. That was an amazing experience far too big to describe in a McMaster computer lab half an hour before lunch time but needless to say it was an incredible day full of family and friends and fun. WOO-HOO!! It's a day that reminds you how truly blessed you are to have the people you love around you and how important they are in your life. I think that was the biggest feeling I felt that day aside for my love for Foreman (he's pretty cool) that my family and friends are the most amazing people on the planet and I don't know what I would do without them.
But I guess I would try by moving 3 provinces and a 4 hour flight away.
After the wedding Foreman and I went on a KICK ASS canoe trip on the Churchill River and then went to Cancun via Vancouver and some good visits with family and the amazing Genetics Geek and Drinking Buddy. Cancun was incredible - perfect weather, an incredible resort, great food, beautiful beaches and awesome relaxation. I couldn't have asked for a better 2-part honeymoon.
When we got home we finished packing and had the wonderfully awesome Margaritaville East Grand Opening party. I couldn't bring myself to call it a good-bye party so this seemed much more positive. It was great to see all our friends and family again and hang out in a more relaxed environment. Mama Bean gave us the incredible guest book which she had worked so hard on at 9 months pregnant and Kristus had, to my surprise, made me a scrapbook that I kept a brave face while looking at with her but then cried like a baby about later (it was wonderful!). Even then though us leaving Edmonton still didn't seem real. Even when Methos teared up I couldn't even go there - it was too sad to think about leaving him (I still call him my roomate even though I'm married now). And when my Angels left too - needless to say to have all the great times of seeing your friends lots and planning such a happy event as your wedding and then have to leave those friends to adventure on - words can't describe how difficult that is.
So then we were off to Ontario - which if you are wondering takes longer than 2 days to travel. We drove from Edmonton to Winnipeg to see Mr. Marmalade (God, it was great to have a good talk with him again even though he lives in a seedy part of town) and Mr. Nature (cause I hadn't seen him in forever) - it was nice too for Foreman to meet some of my friends from a "hippier" time in my life. We left Winnipeg at 6 am and drove without stopping until after midnight and finally stopped and we were only just past Sault Ste. Marie (Ontario is bigger than you think!) so the next day we still had to travel 7 hours and we had already finished the 5th book of Harry Potter. We stayed with Kristus' uncle Beer&BBQ and he was SOOOOO nice and it was great to have a place to land.
We arrived on a Monday and we found an apartment on Thursday after relentless searching. We live behind Doors Pub, built in 1862 and renowned for its ability to pour good Guinness (this will encourage my father-in-law to visit). We're right downtown so it's not a very scenic location but it's spacious and not as run-down as all the other places we saw. It also has a lot of character and now we've kind of made it our own and it feels like home - it's really nice to finally have a home with Foreman.
As for school - I LOVE SCHOOL. I'm a huge geek about school. I was before but I'm an even bigger geek now. I love my program. I get hands-on experience right away. I've already started seeing patients (by shadowing a family doctor). I love everything I'm learning and I can't get enough. BIG GEEK!!! Orientation was really great for all of us to get to know each other and Med Class 2007 has been really supportive and active already. My little tutorial group (there's six of us) is like a little pod and we're having a great time. We had a potluck already at my house this week. School is super! (More on this in later entries.)
As for some bad things: we have had some mice incidents - my macho husband has now killed 2 and we're hoping that is the end of it, our computer has been a safehaven for mounds of gay porn which I think we have now fixed too, Foreman had a bit of a car accident but the people were really nice and that's sorting itself out as well, Foreman needs to hear about teaching and my brother lost his job (but he doesn't seem too upset about it so I'm not going to be upset on his behalf).
Other than that we're both doing really well. I miss our friends and family in Edmonton like crazy. I'm way worse than Foreman and have been known to burst into tears. Tonight we're going to our Wedding Gift Football Game and we're pretty exciting and the Bard is coming to visit this weekend so we're excited about seeing him. So Channananers and Bard have come to visit and Sniderman is coming in November but the rest of you - start making plans now :) (we're coming home Dec. 17-Jan.2)
I promise to write again soon...
