Visit with the Parents
Written @ 7:24 p.m. on 2004-11-18

So last weekend I had the privelage of hosting my parents and our brand new home. It was kind of an adjustment to have them come and stay with us rather than the other way around. They were very excited to come and we were very excited to have them. They of course did the parental thing of wanting to help us out setting up our new place but true to form, for those of you that know my parents, they went INSANELY overboard. I forgot that a vacation for my parents is not the same as a vacation for me and Foreman (the latter involving far more sleep). Thanks to my generous parents we now have a brown living room rather than lime green, 2 shelves above the kitchen sink, more shelves in the cabinet, a whole entire wall unit, an end table, new knobs for the bathroom unit and a new towel rack. My father kept saying if he had one more day he would have redone the kitchen counter (we are renting!) They are really supportive and I love that so much but I forgot how to receive from my parents - I'm used to making my own way here but it was good to be spoiled for a bit.
On Sunday we rested (fitting I know) and went to church and then went to Niagara Falls because my parents had never been there. We went to Table Rock Restaurant which is right beside the falls and you could see it while having lunch and it was PERFECT for my parents who really didn't want to get too wet. The food was great too - it seemed that I might get lucky and Foreman might take me there again (anyone want to visit?)
Then we went to Virgil where my dad's cousin and his family lives. There's something about family that makes you instantly comfortable. You could have never met them before in your life but because they're "family" there's an instant connection. I like that.
On Monday my parents finished up their projects at our house. Foreman got a Skilsaw skill saw and a De Walt power drill from my dad (remember - we rent!) My dad feels the importance of every household in his lineage having quality power tools. And then my mom and I went shopping and I finally got some pants that aren't falling apart at the seams. It was nice to spend time with her one on one.
All in all, it was a great visit with my parents. I've missed them and I'm even more excited to come home for Christmas.
